Biography

Born in a family of musicians, Philippe began practising music in conservatories in Paris where he received a classical training as a violinist and as a guitarist. His interest in world music and improvisation pushed him soon towards jazz, which he studied with the guitarist Pierre Cullaz.

After participating in a variety of musical projects, he recorded in 2009 a first set of original compositions (Philippe Gillet Quintet) under the Nebela label. At that time, he traveled to Latin America and became interested in choro and tango. This music influenced his second album, Prose, which was published in 2012 under the Caxixi label.

Eclectic and curious musician, he had the opportunity to practice many musical styles during different trips. Today he plays a world music where meet his many influences jazz, classical, Latin and Mediterranean.
